The Friends of St Lawrence Primary School is a group of parents/carers with children at the school which organises the social and fundraising activities. As a parent/carer of a child at St Lawrence, you are automatically a member of The Friends and are welcome to join any meetings, fundraising events and social evenings.

Each year in September, The Friends have an Annual General Meeting (AGM). A committee is elected by parents/carers to organise and run events for the academic year. The Committee comprises Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, two representatives per class, a staff representative plus other interested parties.

The key positions this year are:

  • Chair - Lucy Gardner

Hello,

We are excited to be your new Friends of St. Lawrence committee. First, we’d like to say a huge thank you to Sarah Ballantyne, Emma King, Emma Blood and Emma Burton for all their hard work on behalf of our children and community for the past few years. Second, we wanted to share with you what happens next.

What is The Friends?

The Friends is a charitable trust whose purpose is to enrich the lives of all children at St. Lawrence and to support our school community. We do this by raising funds that can be invested into the school and working with all of you as parents/carers and the school staff to build an inclusive and thriving community. Everyone in the school community is automatically a member, but you can choose how active you want to be in working with us.

How does it work?

Throughout the school year we rely on volunteers to help us raise money through activities like the ever-popular Christmas shopping day, second hand uniform sales, and last year's new favourite event, the Colour Run! We are your committee and we want to put together a calendar of events that will interest and benefit you, so we are always open to ideas for events we can put on... we are also very happy to have volunteers step in to run these events!

How is the funding spent?

As we all know, schools benefit hugely from additional funding to further enrich the children’s experience on their precious educational journey.  Our committee will work hard to supplement their funding with other things the school really needs, and take advice from the staff and you about how to best support - both financially and with our time.

In previous years, The Friends’ fundraising efforts have provided: 30 iPads for use in the classroom; playground equipment and markings; reading books for Key Stage 1 & 2; resources for Forest School; additional interactive workshops; and the library refurbishment. Your support directly enhances the learning experiences and opportunities for your children.

How can I help right now?

It's not all about money - time given volunteering is just as valuable and needed. But for those who are able:

Did you know you can make a donation to the school via The Friends at any time?

If would you like to make a one-off or recurring donation - of any size - please use the following account:

Account Name: The Friends of St Lawrence Primary School

Account number: 01327830

Account sort code: 30-92-70

Reference:  Child(ren)’s name(s)

What happens next?

Now that we have been elected as your committee, we will work quickly to pull together The Friends calendar for the year, with your input.

There will be regular bulletins about The Friends’ activities included in the school fortnightly newsletter, as well as updates on Facebook and information via your Class Reps.

If you have an idea for an event, or you see an event you would like to volunteer to support, please get in touch with us at thefriendsofstlawrence@gmail.com

We will also host committee meetings throughout the year where we can share ideas and continue to build our community together.

Thank you and we are looking forward to working together,

Lucy Alexis Hayley
